Downeast roadtrip day 7 – Bar Harbor to Gorham

Day 7 dawned beautiful and sunny, so we drove up Cadillac Mountain (which, at 1,530 feet, is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard) for some excellent views, before leaving the coast and heading inland.

Our destination was Gorham, in the White Mountains, but first we stopped off at yet another L.L. Bean outlet to replace our ancient waterproof jackets. A long morning of driving later we pulled up at the Front Porch Cafe just before they closed at 3pm, and tucked into some excellent burgers.

Crossing the state line into New Hampshire, we soon reached our motel in Gorham – a small town just to the north of the Presidential Range. We strolled up and down the main street, mostly just to walk off the journey, and then retired for a snack dinner and an early night, in preparation for a big day of hiking…
