Apart from conference travel, life lately has been mostly about the routine. Working full time (in a temporary personal assistant job) has rather put a crimp in my exhibition-and-gallery-going, although it’s nice to have some extra dollars coming in (especially with a demanding end-of-summer trip coming up, but more on that another time!).
I always forget how much I love the Cloisters, so it’s such a treat on the rare occasions I do make the trek up there.
Do you know how the tuxedo got its name? Apparently a casino owner from Tuxedo NY was so enamoured of the outfit when he encountered it on a trip to England that he brought the concept home. (I have no idea whether this story is apocryphal or not, but it made for some excellent trail-trivia!)
July seems to have disappeared almost without trace, taking with it the fourth anniversary of our move to America. Four years! It was also a month of contrasting weather, from the refreshing cool of the Montana mountains to some properly sweltering Manhattan summer days. Continue reading
